Zhaohui "Sunny" Zhou,
PhD

Chief Technical Advisor

Dr. Zhou is currently a Professor of Chemistry and Chemical Biology at Northeastern University and a Faculty Fellow at the Barnett Institute for Biological and Chemical Analysis.

Dr. Zhou is well-versed in drug development, translational research and intellectual property strategy.  He is a co-founder and advisor of NIRa Biosciences, which develop novel antibody-drug conjugates.  As a professor of chemistry and chemical biology at Northeastern University, his laboratory applies protein chemistry, analysis and engineering to biology and medicine.  One program is “Hybrid Modality Engineering of Proteins”—a platform to introduce non-canonical chemical moieties and/or scaffolds into peptides and proteins to confer novel functions (mode of action) otherwise unavailable via recombinant technology.  One example is antibody conjugates that degrade membrane proteins. Furthermore, he has collaborated with and consulted for over 20 biopharma companies.  He serves as editors of mAbs, Antibody Therapeutics and Bioconjugation Insights.

Dr. Zhou received his PhD from the Scripps Research Institute and did his postdoctoral work at the University of Michigan Medical School.  He was a Visiting Professor at Harvard Medical School
